The basis for the most worldwide methods of isotope separation in atomic vapors is multistage isotope-selective ionization of atoms according to AVLIS technique and multiphoton dissociation (MPD). AVLIS is technically a complicated method and MPD is of small selectiveness. The method of photochemical laser isotope separation in atomic vapors is free of these deficiencies. Historically, however, preference was given to AVLIS and MPD with considerable investments into their development. Elaboration of the photochemical method, on the contrary, received practically no attention. It is only of late that the interest in this method has noticeably grown, and nowadays the focus is on its potentialities.
