1. Introduction: Eolys? is a family of fuel-borne catalysts manufactured by Rhodia to regenerate particulate filters used for Diesel motor particulate abatement (DPF). Eolys? DPX-10, a second-generation product, is composed of nanoparticles of Ce/Fe oxides. These oxides catalyse the smooth combustion of soot particles above 450°C. Besides its performances as a catalyst, one has to control its retention by the DPF to avoid a dissemination of residues, especially for a heavy metal as Ce. Filtration efficiencies >99% were obtained for Ce by a VERT test [1]. However, this test could not conclude for Fe retention by the filter, due to the impossibility to separate Fe coming from the engine and from Eolys?. This is obviously a case where isotopic tracing methods might provide a solution.
