This paper performed a space - time dynamic analysis based on the terrace area of thirteen years of each Plateau county in the Loess Plateau supported by the GIS software. The results show that the area of terrace is increasing year after year in the Loess Plateau; The area of terrace is always relatively more in Lin County, Dingxi County, Zhuanglang County, Jingning County, Huining County and Tongwei County; But the area of terrace is less in the more and coarser sediment area. To reduce the sediment amount that runs into the Yellow River effectively, we should strength the terrace project in the serious soil erosion area (especially in the more and coarser sediment area) besides the dam project.
