In this paper, the processes of sediment transport and morphological changes in the Lower Yellow River were simulated by the Delft3D software. Calculated results in the Huayuankou — Xinzhai reach indicate that the suspended sediments with different grain sizes follow different transport laws; the finer silt can be transported easily by the flow, which leads to a uniform distribution of depth- averaged concentration on the horizontal plane; the transport of coarser sand depends on the local flow condition, which causes a non - uniform horizontal distribution of depth- averaged concentration; in addition, the main channel was eroded and the floodplain was deposited during the simulation period. Generally speaking, basic agreements between the calculated results and observed data were obtained. Therefore, it is feasible for the Delft3D software to simulate the sediment transport and morphological changes in the Lower Yellow River.
