Motorcycle shields are made up of a great deal of freeform surface. As these products have the complicated construction and high quality appearance, it is difficult to develop motorcycle products all along. In the beginning, after summarizing several existing rapid tooling technology, the paper introduces the rapid metal hard tooling technology of the plasma spraying. By using this kind of technology, a motorcycle shield panel hard mold has been manufactured and the injection experiment has been carried out. The above experiment result proves this technology can make moulds, which has high precision and hard surface hardness and good surface roughness. The dimension precision of the mold can be controlled within ± 0.1%. The average surface hardness can obtain 820 HV (equal to 62 HRC). The surface roughness can attach Ra0.5μm. Because of simple facture process, the technology is applicable to develop new product or mold in car and motorcycle industry.
