Chromatic pupillary response in diabetic patients

Chromatic perception was analyzed in 24 diabetic patients, (15 women, age 66/spl plusmn/17 yr and 9 men, age 53/spl plusmn/19 yr, with a diabetes duration from 6 months to 30 years), and a control group with normal color vision (6 women, age 27.5/spl plusmn/4.5) yr and 10 men (age 32/spl plusmn/10). Using the video-oculography technique, we obtained the pupillary response by means of the consensual reflex, displaying 26 visual stimulus from 400 to 650 nm in steps of 10 nm. According the pupillary dilation percentage and pupillary area we observed anomalies in chromatic perception in 75% of the diabetic patients, of which 29.16% present an anomaly observing blue colors, 25% observing red colors, and 20.83 % observing the whole visible spectrum.
