CERTIFICATION OF COTS AND NON-COTS BATTERIES FOR CREWED SPACE VEHICLES

The certification process for the use of COTS (Commercial-off-the-Shelf) and non-COTS batteries has undergone changes and improvements in the past two years. Bilateral meetings of NASA independently with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Russian Space Agency (RSC-E), have resulted in agreements that clarified the certification process. The processes agreed upon will be discussed in this paper.
