The interaction parameter between N-methyl morpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) and water was determined through freezing point depression method using modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC) and varies in the range of-4.1 to 0.4 with NMMO concentration. The interaction parameter between water and cellulose as well as the interaction parameter between cellulose and NMMO were evaluated by equilibrium swelling experiments or obtained from reference, respectively. Based on these thermodynamic parameters and Flory-Huggins polymer solution theory, the binodal and spinodal curve of the system cellulose/NMMO/water are calculated in a phase diagram.
