Influence of atmospheric pressure upon water vapour permeability resistances of microporous membrane of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and ordinary textile of polyester (PET) is investigated using a developed apparatus. The water vapour resistance of the PTFE is independent of the pressure and stays at a constant value of about 4 s/m, while that of the PET depends upon the pressure and decreases with the decreasing pressure. The reason for the different effect of the pressure on the water vapour resistance among them is discussed in terms of the sizes of the micropore in the specimen and the mean free path of water vapour molecules in air.
