The application of an advanced on-line, full-flow oil debris sensing technology to the helicopter engine is described. The technology presented is the only 'all-metals' detection technology in production for aerospace applications and has already proven effective in assessing bearing and gear condition in advanced fighter applications. It is the critical mission of the helicopter power-train that makes the technology ideal for the rotor craft application, particularly to the engine power-plant, regardless of whether the configuration is single or multi-engine. This paper describes the oil debris sensing technology and details the application design challenges and results of fitting this modern technology to an operational fleet of the Sikorsky Sea King helicopters.'
