The UK driven piling market for more than a decade has been eroded by alternative more expensive piling systems which also prolong the duration of the activity (continuous flight auger, rotary displacement) on the basis of environmental factors particularly noise. An assessment and review of actual noise levels at source from driven piling rigs, rates of decay with distance, soil density / stiffness, and methods of noise mitigation is given to predict and determine more accurately its acceptability to provide an increased valued foundation engineering solution.
