Using butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, and hydroxylethyl methacrylate as comonomers, vinyl trimethoxysiloxane as modifier, along with ammonium persulfate as initiator, mixture of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and p-octyl polyethylene glycol phenyl ether (OP) or mixture of (2-sodium sulfonate) nonyl phenyl ether polyethylene glycol monoester sodium diacetate (trademark MS-1) and OP as emulsifier, silicone-modified acrylic emulsions with high hydroxyl content (10~35%) were synthesized from semi-continuous seed emulsion polymerization methods. A two-level, seven-factor matrix was set to determine the stability of emulsion polymerization process, which was represented by the coagulum of emulsion. The structure and thermal stability of the emulsion polymer were characterized with IR and TG-DTA, respectively. The content of silicon monomer participating the emulsion polymerization was measured with ICP. The micro-phase structure of the film was observed with TEM.
