NOVEL PIGMENT DISPERSING AGENT PRODUCED BY EMULSION POLYMERIZATION

EFKA has developed a new water-borne High Molecular Weight Dispersant (HMWD) which is produced by the "emulsion (heterogenous) polymerization process". The polymerization of the new HMWD takes place directly in the water phase instead of in solvents or carriers. EFKA 4580 is the first product resulting from this novel concept for which EFKA has filed a patent application. This presentation will highlight EFKA 580 as a versatile polymeric dispersant exhibiting deflocculation of all kinds of organic and inorganic pigments. The product is suitable for ultra low (<5 g/L = <0.042 Lbs/Gal) VOC applications and is compatible with a wide range of commonly used water-borne decorative and industrial coatings, as well as for the formulation of Resin Free Pigment Concentrates (RFPC).
