The Haloclean Process is a new technology for the recycling of electronic scrap. It is a two stage pyrolysis reaction under nitrogen atmosphere. The products are a pyrolysis gas and a solid residue. Both streams are useable as valuable substances. Especially the residues are of interest because of their metal content. Additionally to the "low value" metals like copper or iron, there are precious metals in the residues like gold, silver, palladium and platinum. Due to this fact a high interest to recover this metal is given. State of the art is on one hand the treatment of this materials in a copper smelter where the copper, and in further steps also the precious metals are recovered. On the other hand, materials which have a certain amount of precious metals are treated with cyanide for leaching. Especially the last one is of high risk for man and environment.
