The Shifted Warped Normal Model for Mortality

摘要

Age distributions of deaths due to specific diseases show strong skewness to the left. Using P-splines, an transformation of age is computed in such a way that the distributions become normal, but shifted over time on the transformed scale. The model is illustrated with data on deaths from respiratory diseases in the USA.
