The demands of the renewable energy market drive the quest for developing electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLCs) and Lithium Ion capacitors (LICs) with increasingly improved performance; For both EDLC and LIC applications, a key factor for success is the capability to modify the activated carbon structure, and tailor it to specific device requirements; In this work we investigate the correlation between structure and performance for a series of activated carbon materials in two different electrolytes, one of relevance for EDLCs and the other for LIC devices.
