The horizontal ultimate bearing capacity of bucket foundations is studied by means of model tests and numerical analyses. The horizontal failure modes and mechanism of bucket foundations and the earth pressure acting on the bucket wall are studied by model tests. The formula for evaluating the horizontal ultimate bearing capacity of the single bucket foundations is suggested on the basis of analysis results. Finally, the variation relationship of the horizontal ultimate bearing capacity of double bucket foundations is investigated and the means to evaluate the horizontal ultimate bearing capacity of the double buckets foundations is suggested.
