Variability of Results of Dynamic Analysis of Spars

In this paper we present the predictions of two programs that were developed at the OTRC for the nonlinear dynamic analysis of Spars, using a modified form of Morison’s equation, and including a number of nonlinearities. The results of the two programs are compared among themselves and with experimental data. The programs had been developed as part of two different research projects and the studies conducted by their authors had shown reasonable agreement with the experimental measurements. In this work the programs were run by an independent researcher, who had not been involved in their development, without access to the original input data. The objective was to determine the sensitivity of the results to the input parameters selected by different users to model the same basic structure.
