Quartz glass mortar bar test, based on ASTM C441 and ASTM C1260 was performed to evaluate the suppressing effect of mineral admixtures on alkali-silica reaction. Some parameters of the method were discussed in the paper The effectiveness of fly ash, blast furnace slag, and two kinds of natural zeolites on preventing ASR expansion was evaluated by this new method. The suitability of simulating natural reactive aggregate by using fused silica glass was proved additionally by results of differential thermal analysis, scanning electron microscope and X-Ray powder diffraction.
