We measured the contribution of weathering to landscape lowering across a retreating escarpment in southern NSW, Australia. On convex hilltops, where transport of particles is dominated by soil creep, we determined that significant solute loss occurs in the soil. The contribution of erosion to landscape lowering varies significantly with position relative to the escarpment and total denudation rate, but net chemical weathering rates are indistinguishable.
