With the development of urbanization, groundwater contamination has become important issues for the urban groundwater supply. This study has investigated the chemical characteristics and the contamination of groundwater in relation to urbanization. The characteristics of chemical component of groundwater are analyzed, summed and classified. The results show that: (1) There are rapidly increase for the concentration of Cl-, as well as SO4- in groundwater from 1989 to 2002 and 2003; (2) Groundwater chemistry is more influenced by urbanization than by aquifer rock type; (3) The main cause for Cl- increasing in fracture-karst water is leaching from a waste dump by atmospheric precipitation.
