A simulated leaching experiment on"daily life" city garbage from Xiaojianxi, Qingdao has been carried out. We studied changes in the leached liquid component of garbage and predicted a pollution trend. We assumed an average annual precipitation of 700 mm in the Qingdao area to simulate the effect of rainfall on garbage leaching. The results indicate that levels of COD and concentrations of inorganic components in leachate are high at the outset of leaching, then decrease as leaching continues and finally approach a stable level. Based on the results, we modeled the pollution trend using nonlinear multivariate regression analysis. The model predicts that the value of COD and NH4+ would remain high for 30 years. SO42-, gross hardness and Cl- would reach standard Ⅲ ground water quality in 19, 16 and 23 years, respectively.
