This study focuses on an arid area. The age of shallow groundwater from the test datum of 3H is less than 40 years in the eastern area, and he main recharge is rain. In the western area, the age of shallow groundwater is greater than 40 years and the main recharge sources are snowmelt and crevice groundwater.The age of confined groundwater based on 14C is less than 1000 years in the eastern area and is greater than 1000 years in the western area. The age of the oldest groundwater is greater than 5000 years and distributes in the lower reaches of Heihe River Basin. The confined groundwater was mainly recharged by regional meteoric water and river water through geological history. The shallow groundwater age on the Gebi zone under the Qilian Mountains is younger.
