Low-pressure mercury-argon (Hg-Ar) discharge has found application in general lighting for decades as the commonly known fluorescent lamp. However, there is in general lack of data, both experimental and theoretical, of the radial structure of the discharge. Besides, the fact that this structure changes with the operating conditions also affects the distributions of the Ilg excited states and hence the UV efficiency of the lamp.
