Simulation Development in Support of Investigation of Handling Qualities Specification Requirements for Maritime Rotorcraft

ADS-33 (Ref.[1]) addresses rotorcraft flying qualities specification requirements in a novel way so that many of the complicated rotorcraft flying maneuvers can be quantitatively assessed. However, the current ADS-33 was developed primarily for land based rotorcraft operations. The Naval rotorcraft flying qualities requirements were not adequately addressed. This research focuses on the development of a high fidelity rotorcraft simulation in support of developing a technical basis for augmenting the current aeronautical design standard, ADS-33E-PRF, in order to address the handling qualities requirements for maritime rotorcraft. Efforts were also focused on developing simulation methodologies for evaluating the specification criteria and identifying the limitations for modifications.
