Ni-MH Battery Management on Tokyo R&D's Electric Scooter "ELE-ZOO" Tokyo R&D started marketing the electric scooter "ELE-ZOO", pronounced "ele-zo", from spring of 2004. The sales are limited to domestic Japanese market. Unlike with the predecessor electric scooters, "ELE-ZOO" uses Ni-MH battery that contributes to reduce the complete vehicle weight to 95KG and it provides cruising range of approx. 25km in the city conditions. Battery is charged to approx. full in 2.5 hours by connecting to standard Japanese 100V home outlet. The D-size Ni-MH cells that are almost identical to those, which were used in the first generation Toyota "Prius" had been tried and proved for a usage specific to Hybrid EV where they are used in a limited range of SOC, however, they had never been market-proven for a repetitive deep cycle charging/discharging that is typically specific to Pure EV. On packaging such Ni-MH cells in 60 series/2 parallel connected module, we developed our own proprietary battery management system and implemented such system for the first time in the history of Pure EV.
