Drying Characteristics of PMMA Beads in Inert Medium Bubbling Fluidized Beds

The effects of hot air temperature (315-353 K), hot air gas velocity (0.259-0.305 m/s) and the mass ratio of inert particles and wetted fine powders (0.1-0.4) on drying rate were determined in an inert medium bubbling fluidized bed (0.152 m-ID × 1.0 m-high). Inert particle was glass beads (dp= 590 §-, |? P= 2,500 kg/m 3 ) and fine powder was PMMA beads (dp=12.5 §-, |? P=1,190 kg/m 3 ). The drying rate increases with increasing gas temperature and gas flow rate, but decreases with increasing the mass ratio of inert particles and fine powders. The obtained maximum drying rates were correlated with diameter of inert particles, inlet gas temperature, gas flow rate and the ratio of fine powders and inert particles.
