In this paper, the desulphurization characteristic of shell and limestone are studied by means of LCT-2 thermobalance, JXA-840 scan electron microscope and Peromaser-60 microstructure surveying instrument. Their microstructure characteristic and desulphurization capability are compared and analyzed. The reasons why shell and limestone hold the different desulphurization capability are deeply discussed. Under the condition of 900°C and thermal analysis, the utilization ratio of calcium of shell is higher than that of limestone by 3~38 percent point. Most kinds of the shells are easier to desulphurization reaction than the limestone, which have been explained by the microstructure comparison and validated in the fluidized-bed experiment. The study shows that the microstructure characteristic of sulfur capture sorbents is one of key factors that affect its sulfur capture ability. The sulfation reaction ability will be increased obviously if the ratio of middle-sized pores in the reactor particles can be assured.
