On June 17-28, 2003, an 8-strand billet caster was successfully upgraded in Shougang No.2 Steelworks, in order to produce more steel grades and improve product quality to meet the demanding requirement. After revamping, the billet caster focuses mainly on high quality structural steel, high carbon steel, steel for welding rods and alloy steels, such as 45-70, HRB400, 08LS, H08A, S08A, 1006, 1008, 25MnV, 20CrMoA, 35CrMo, 40CrA. After 3-mouth successful operation, the product quality of both as-cast billet and rolled products has been greatly improved, and proportion of the high quality and high value added products increased from 10% before revamping to 50% after revamping.
