In February 2002, Jakarta experienced one of the most severe floods in history, which caused widespread damage and affected more than 75% of the total population of the city. Duration of the flood was from the end of January to the beginning of February 2002. Jakarta City is frequently affected by floods; a third of northern Jakarta is flooded on average twice a year. This paper is intended to present the flood problems in Jakarta, the recently flood in 2002, how such a flood could happen and lessons learnt from it to overcome future floods that most probably attack the Jakarta City with bigger (could be) magnitude.
