Quantity Vs Quality, Government Vs Private, Static Vs Dynamic, Rigid Vs Flexible - the technical education sector in India is currently undergoing a transformation. The emergence of the "knowledge economy" is driving it into a more challenge-facing environment. A knowledge-driven economy is one in which the generation, exploitation and interpretation of knowledge play the predominant role in the creation of wealth. In the present Indian situation there is no alternative way to prosperity than to make learning and knowledge-creation of prime importance. These factors have triggered the rise of private sectors in education, steeper costs of higher education and the need for independent institutional revenue generation for better sustenance/performance. This paper highlight the main issues related with building of knowledge economy. It presents an overview of the situation & perspectives of knowledge economy in India and how quickly it can become a 'learning economy' according to the demand of the new growth economics. The influence of information & communication technology on economy is also investigated. The exploration of the ways in which Indian technical institutions and universities promote learning and contribute to knowledge accumulation, are re-examined in this paper. The combined role of business house, government house and technical education institutes is suggested in this present challenging scenario of India.
