Laser Solid Forming (LSF) has been considered as a significant and promising technology to fabricate functionally graded materials. A rapidly solidified binary Nickel-Titanium graded material was fabricated by a CO_(2) laser solid forming equipment, using argon as the protecting gas. The compositional gradient in the graded alloy was changed from pure Ni to Ni-35at.(percent)Ti in a thin-wall sample with the height of 24 mm. The results of SEM and EDS analysis showed that a series of phase evolutions, gamma dendrite+ (gamma+gamma') eutectic -> eta platelet + (eta+Ni_(3)Ti_(2)) eutectic ->^s(eta+Ni_(3)Ti_(2)) eutectic, along the graded direction with the increasing of Ni content. Phase formation and microstructure evolution was analyzed.
