WHEN SHOULD WE USE STEROIDS IN NEUROLOGY?

Glucocorticosteroids (GCs) are commonly used drugs in veterinary medicine. Their uses are broad ranging but these drugs are mainly used for their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. There are considerable long and short term side-effectsassociated with the use of these drugs and so their administration should be limited to specific conditions in which their benefits will outweigh their risks. Neurological diseases often require steroidal therapy. This presentation will review the specific uses and contraindications of GCs in veterinary neurology.
