A detailed mechanical analysis of the pull-out type in-situ modulus test often used for determination of the primary coating modulus was performed. It was shown that the rigid-rod assumption for the glass fiber is not valid. As a consequence of glass fiber stretch, values obtained for the primary modulus are too low. Correction equations, taking stretch in both the embedded and the non-embedded part of the glass fiber into account, are derived. Using these corrections more accurate values for the primary coating modulus are obtained. Additionally, a very easy to use new mechanical clamping system, not requiring glue to mount the fiber, is introduced. Results for some coated fibers included, illustrate the use of the new clamp and show the importance of the required corrections.
