The Copper Cable for 2.5Gbps Signaling

We have developed a connector and a cable assembly capable of transmitting data at 2.5 Gbps/pair (InfiniBand compatible) in storage area networks. The cable is made of an 8- or 24-pair Twinax cable, and the conductor is silver-plated annealed copper, while the insulation is a foamed polyethylene of a low dielectric constant. The connector is coupled with the cable by a new welding method (direct attach), instead of the usual soldering. In various tests conducted to examine the electrical and mechanical properties of the connector and the cable assembly, we have made sure that the products meet InfiniBand requirements and ensured excellent performance in crosstalk and impedance matching.
