摘要

The evaluation of the recent status of biodiversity in Southern African Savannas is a major challenge for land management and conservation purposes. The study aims to apply a standardized land cover mapping technique in the NE-Kalahari in Namibia based on recent detailed botanical vegetation characterisations and multi-scale earth observation data. Vegetation type-specific phenological metrics were derived by MODIS time series of the year 2004. Homogeneous landscape patterns derived by Landsat-TM data were used to upscale in-situ data on the coarse MODIS scale. Separability analysis was performed to estimate class separabilites. A classification tree (CART) classification method is being applied by using a flexible classification scheme based on the UN-LCCS to generate an up-to-date vegetation map.
