How the GEO Standards and Interoperability Forum (SIF) Advances the Interoperability Goals of GEOSS

The GEO Standar ds and Interoperability Forum (SIF) provides advice, expert ise and impartial guidance on issues relating to standards and interoperability for the Global Earth Obse rvation Sy stem of Sy stems (GEOSS). The SI F plays a key role in the maintenance of the GEOSS Standards and Interoperability Registry which hosts information on the standards an d in teroperability ar rangements emp loyed b y GEOSS comp onents. Th rough evalu ation of registry en tries, user support and contributor engagem ent, the SIF is advancing the goals of GE OSS by foster ing adherence to GEOSS interoperabilit y prin ciples. The SIF also suppor ts efforts to create an Earth Observations Standards Taxonomy and a r egistration and har monization of GEOSS-r elevant ontologies. W e report on the st atus of SIF act ivities and highlight the challenges to achieving optimum interoperability.
