Electroacupuncture (EA) can be defined as the passing of an electrical current through acupuncture points (APs). This can be achieved either through the contact electrode touching the skin (electropuncture), or when the current is delivered to the deeper tissues through the implanted acupuncture needles (electroacupuncture). Diagnostic methods of electroacupuncture include electroacupuncture according to Voll (EAV), Akabane testing and the Ryodoraku system.
