High-temperature Cyanide Leaching of Platinum Group Metals from Spent Auto-Catalysts

Leaching of Platinum-Group Metals (PGMs) selectively from spent automobile catalysts by sodium cyanide (NaCN) solutions at elevated temperatures was investigated, and various effects on percent cyanide leaching was discussed. The results show that percent extraction of Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium could reach 98 percent, 99 percent and 96 percent respectively. The method makes the recovery of PGMs directly from spent auto-catalysts by hydrometallurgical-flow evolved.
