EXTENDING UML WITH PEARL FEATURES FOR THE DESIGN OF EMBEDDED REAL-TIME SYSTEMS

摘要

The process of modeling and developing embedded real-time systems should be supported by suitable methods and notations. A widely used, and generally accepted technique in modern software engineering is the combination of different models, or views, to describe systems. UML provides a rich and extensible set of modeling constructs, which can be used in many different types of software engineering to meet the needs of typical projects. Here, we consider adopting useful features from PEARL to extend UML through its Extension Mechanisms to the end of designing embedded real-time systems. The extensions are to provide capabilities to model distributed systems, and to cope with timing constraints. The primary objective is to complement UML's real-time characteristics, to provide facilities to describe hardware configurations, and to increase the safety of the systems developed.
