The main results obtained are as follows: (1) The improved automatic image processing system is useful for evaluating automatically the behavior of numerous cutting edges more than seventy five thousands over the whole wheel surface in long grinding process. (2) In the initial grinding process, a part of cutting edges on the CBN wheel surface is fractured largely and/or removed from the bond. After the initial process, the wheel condition is almost the same until the critical grinding process. Over a critical grinding process, the cutting edge density and cutting edge ratio increase steeply due to the remarkable occurrence of the bond wear and loading. (3) The behavior of cutting edges in grinding process has little on the surface roughness in the grinding process instead of the initial grinding process. From the excessive increase of the cutting edge ratio due to the long grinding process, the grinding crack occurs on the workpiece surface.
