The grinding characteristics of ultrafine-crystalline cBN (cBN-U) abrasive in creep feed profile grinding of high speed tool steels have been investigated and compared with those of a typical conventional cBN (cBN-B1) abrasive. The main results obtained in this study are summarized as follows: 1. When grinding with cBN-U abrasive, both radial wear and profile wear are less, and hence the steady grinding ratio is around 4 times higher than with cBN-B1 abrasive. 2. cBN-U abrasive is suitable for the applications with a high dimensional accuracy in creep feed profile grinding for high speed tool steels, because it gives less profile wear, and hence better form retention, than conventional cBN abrasive.
