The increasing utilization of Web applications through the use of mobile computing devices, such as personal digital assistants and cellular phones, justifies the study of techniques that can be applied to reduce the access time of information available on Web servers. In the wired Internet, it is already common practice to use Web caching in order to reduce network utilization and access time to a Web page. Mobile users introduce a new variable in the process of deciding what to cache due to the fact that a user may dynamically change its contact point with the network, accessing the Web server through a different path, which may not have access to the same cached pages. This paper briefly discusses some of the mechanisms used in Web caching and analyzes some of the new challenges that must be considered in the new environment.
