This paper presents a refinement to the automatic windshear detection algorithm based on the headwind profile provided by the LIDAR. The refined algorithm searches for maximum headwind change over a spatial scale of 1 nautical mile. It is shown to better capture headwind changes contributed by rapid wind fluctuations. Compared with the original algorithm, the refined algorithm achieves higher PODs and lower FARs with marginal increase of alert duration (or alert duration per hit) over some runway corridors of HKIA.
