Advanced Laser Transmitters for Lidar Applications

We have described an approach to the qualification of the CALIPSO laser transmitter that relied heavily on careful lifetime testing and design validation of an engineering unit as well as on testing of several flight-like subassemblies and modules. Much of the basic design was derived from previously fielded units. We are in the process of extending this approach to the development of space-qualifiable single frequency lasers. A number of systems have been built and will undergo extensive field testing. We will use the results of these field tests to develop our final space-qualified design.
