Polymer optical fiber (POF) based on PMMA are used in many different applications: in addition to data transmission, the automotive, lighting and sensor applications are of main interest. Due to the spectral attenuation, light-sources like broadband metal-halide lamps and halogen lamps, or LEDs and laser-diodes in the VIS-region are mainly used. Due to improvement in manufacturing of the standard step-index POF, the variations of the spectral attenuation in the blue region have been reduced. Therefore, the losses are also acceptable for short-length light-delivery systems in the UV-A region; however, the UV-damage during light-delivery is an important factor, in addition to the basic attenuation and the bending losses in the UV-A-region.
