IMPERFECT COMPETITION AND OPTIMAL POLLUTION TAX

摘要

The optimal pollution tax rate which maximizes the total social surplus is derived for Cournot oligopoly-oligopsony allowing for coexistence of imperfectly competitive factor and product markets. The rate is compared with the marginal value of the environmental damage caused by harmful effluents. Some polar cases are examined to clarify its economic implications.
