Comparative analysis of Messina Bridge - International benchmark study

In order to make better understanding and further development of aerodynamics of a challenging super long-span bridge, it is necessary to identify quantitative difference of results for different modeling, analytical programs, analytical methods, testing methods, etc., and/or to confirm consistency in results for those different approaches. In response to this appeal, a benchmark study group was set up at the occasion of 10th ICWE in Copenhagen, led by Prof. Diana of Politecnico di Milano. Messina Bridge was chosen to share its structural and aerodynamic data among members, and compare analytical results with different approaches and methods. A first contribution of natural frequencies, flutter critical wind speeds and static wind deflection by Yokohama National University is presented. Discussion about comparison of the results with Milan group's results is also made.
