WIND LOAD ANALYSIS OF HIGH RISE STRUCTURES

Tall buildings are constructed in large numbers due to scarcity of land and to meet the increasing demand for space for residential and commercial purposes. These structures being slender, light weight and with low structural damping undergo oscillations in along wind, across wind and torsional directions under the influence of strong winds. Safe with good human comfort and economic design of tall buildings are achieved, if reliable methods to account for complicated wind or seismic effects are practiced while their design. From the. extensive review of literature carried out, it is clear that lot of theoretical and experimental work has been done in single-bay, multi-storey frames. But the work done to study the multi-bay effects in multi-storey infilled frames subjected to lateral loads under experimental environment is limited. Also it was found that no studies were carried out on two-bay, five-storey R.C. frames with flyash brick infill, hollow concrete block infill and thermacole infilled ferrocement pannei infill. Three numbers of one-fourth size two-bay, five-storey model specimens were fabricated and tested. The details of the models are as follows: R.C. Frame infilled with flyash brick infill. (FABF) R.C. Frame infilled with hollow concrete block infill. (HBF) R.C. Frame infilled with forrocement panel infill. (FCF) The experiments were conducted to find out the properties of the above said three frames with respect to load carrying capacity, load deflection behaviour, stiffness degradation, ductility characteristics and energy dissipation capacity. The significant conclusion arrived at based on the present investigation, are listed.
