The theme of the 8th International Conference of Process Systems Engineering is to provide the process industry with PSE for sound and professional decision-making. With the fast development of information technology, the global economic, industrial and corporate structures are being remade, and enterprise business model and operation are also changing significantly. The vast application of information technology has been playing an important role in such changes and reform. After the early irrationality, a lesson has been learnt that only combined with the conventional industries can information technology show its vitality. IT development, as the Chinese government points out, is a necessity in China's industrialization and modernization. Recognizing this, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation upgrades its businesses with information technology to meet challenges of globalization and WTO accession.
